CPU heavy- duty gear units are specially designed to drive horizontal ball mills.

The design of the two- stage planetary gear unit guarantees optimum power transmission in the 1000 to 10,000 kW range.

CPU gear units consist of two gear stages, the casings of which are bolted together. The internal toothed coupling guarantees reaction-free power transmission from the first planetary stage to the second. The gear unit is supported on the foundation with four feet and is attached with four anchor bolts.

This results in simple alignment with a very short installation time.

Drive

Drive takes place via a MAAG toothed coupling. The main components of the two gear stages are a sun pinion with three planet wheels and an inner gear ring. The drive to the mill is transmitted via MAAG toothed coupling with a torsion shaft. The complete drive group is coaxially arranged.CPU Gear Unit in Coaxial Arrangment

Casings

The divided casings are solid, welded steel structures.

Bearings

The high quality journal bearings have a very long life. They are provided with babbitted metal lining and scraped.

Planet shafts

The planet shafts are also provided with babbitted metal lining and scraped. They are held in place by solid, welded and accurately machined planet carriers.

The spur teeth of the sun pinion and the planet wheels are casehardened using the CARBOMAAG method. They are ground on MAAG SE-2-2 and SE-402 grinding machines, achieving a quality level of Q3 or better to ISO 1328-1.

The tooth flanks of the sun pinions have both profile and longitudinal corrections to fully compensate for deformations occurring under load.This method guarantees optimum tooth flank contact and very long life. The inner gear rings are heat-treated. The teeth are finished on a MAAG gear-shaping machine with a chisel shaped tool. A quality level of Q5 or better is achieved.

Lubricant system

The gearing is lubricated by a closed-circuit oil system.

The oil supply unit is ideally located beneath the mill drive motor. A cooling and/or heating system is part of the standard equipment. An optimal operating temperature is therefore guaranteed, regardless of fluctuations in ambient temperatures. The high efficiency remains constant and operational reliability is unaffected. The oil system is controlled and monitored automatically. Top priority is given to guaranteeing operational reliability.
